Realty Watch is a mobile neighborhood watch system -
a unique crime prevention program tha t is a coopera tive
effort between REAL TORS ® and the Nia gara Regional
Police Service to stop crime before it happens.
Through the Realty Watch Program the members of the
Niagara Association of REALTORS ® , a trade association
of over 1000 real estate professionals in the Niagara
Region, are prepared to assist the police in protecting the
community in which they live and work.
The REAL TORS ® ha ve been instrumental in assisting
the NRP in loca ting missing persons in distress on three
occasions in the past few years. The program works!
Crime Stoppers encourages members of the community
to assist local la w enforcement a gencies in the fi ght
against crime by overcoming the two key elements that
inhibit community involvement: Fear and Apathy.
Crime Stoppers provides 3 ways for residents to provide
valuable informa tion, in each case remaining totally
anonymous.
The trademarks REALTOR®, REALTORS® and the REALTOR® logo are controlled by The Canadian Real
Estate Association (CREA) and identify real estate professionals who are members of CREA.

Build a defense against fire
NEWS CANADA
Recent fires remind homeowners of the importance of preventing the
financial and emotional damage that home fires can cause. There are steps
homeowners can take to limit damage in the unfortunate event of a fire,
such as the use of smoke detectors, sprinklers and properly planned escape routes,
but one of the most important things to consider is how homes are built and what
they are built with.

?The masonry industry is
committed to advocating
for the safety of Ontario
homeowners,?
says Dante DiGiovanni, president of
MasonryWorx. ?We work tirelessly to ensure
building codes provide the necessary protection
to homeowners in the form of the highest
possible standards for fire performance and
protection.?
Current Ontario building codes allow for
construction of a non-masonry firewall offering
two-hour fire resistance. This has masonry
professionals and some building and safety
experts concerned that minimum requirements
do no offer enough protection to homes, their
contents and the families living in them. ?The
difference between a masonry firewall and one
constructed with wood becomes apparent when
a fire occurs,? says Mr. DiGiovanni.
