It's safe to say, her time with Genstar has been a perfect fit. The long-time Genstar manager retired this week after 20 years with one of Edmonton's most decorated developers. "I've had to come in a few days this week to tie a few loose ends up and I've been getting teased," said Patterson, who punched the time clock one last time on Apr.30. "It will hit me in a few weeks when I realize that it's not a vacation... this is for real." "For me, Genstar has been a fantastic fit. I've had a lot of opportunities, it's a great industry to work in." Patterson started asaregional controller with Genstar and then worked her way up through the company ranks. She's seen the homebuilding industry evolve over time. "When I started, the approval process was a much more simple process and the challenge was getting the service done," said Patterson. "The developmentprocess has changed over that 20 years to allow for a lot more public input which is a positive thing for homeowners." When a person starts their career, they hope that when they approach their retirement years, they can look back and be proud of what they accomplished. Not everyone gets to experience that as theyapproach retirement. Patterson can count herself as one of the lucky ones. "I never marked the calendar with an x, waiting for the day to come. I've enjoyed my job since the day I started," said Patterson. "I felt the time was right. My husband and I have some things we want to do while we have our health. "I'm going to miss all of the people I've worked with at Genstaras well as all the great people in the industry. When I started with the company, I was looking for a change - something that would be interesting, and this job has given me so much more. "It'sbeenawonderful journey, and I hope it continues to be a wonderful journey in another way."
