Consul Grzegorz Jopkiewicz presided over the ceremony which took place at the Consulate General of the Republic Poland in Toronto. The Order of Polonia Restituta (Rebirth of Poland) was established in 1921 and is Poland's second highest civilian award. Th e award is conferred by the president of Poland for outstanding achievement in various areas including public service activities. Stohandel, who immigrated to Canada in 1952, has spent a lifetime in the service of the Polish Canadian community, most notably with the Polish Scouting Association.
