12 NEW HOMES & CONDOS The basic steps of dividing a plant are simple. Once your plant shows signs of growth in the spring, dig up the clump. One of the most rewarding aspects of perennial gardening is the fact that most plants increase in size over the years. After a time, some of your perennials are going to benefit from being divided, and in most cases spring is a terrific time to go about this task. For beginning gardeners, the first time or two you divide perennials you're going to be nervous and unsure of what you're doing. 16 NEW HOMES & CONDOS LINDA WHITE Special to QMI Agency Tired of sharing your home's lone bathroom with the entire family? Dreaming about transforming your outdated kitchen into a gourmet delight? Should you turn your basement into a home theatre or invest in central air conditioning? Whether you're planning to stay in your home for the unforeseeable future or expect to sell in the next few years, knowing how much your investment may impact the resale value of your home is an important consideration for anyone contemplating renovations. Some home improvement projects are obvious winners, giving a home a distinct advantage in a competitive real estate market. 18 NEW HOMES & CONDOS CONDO CULTURE BBQs are a HOT issue MarilyN liNCOlN Special to QMI Agency Q. Our rules state barbecues are not permitted on our balconies. Some people are ignoring the rule and cooking three times a day on their balconies. I can't even open my windows or sit on my own balcony because of all the smoke. What can I do to resolve this problem? A. Potential fire hazard and environmental are two reasons why barbecuing on a balcony may be prohibited. Strong odours along with thick smoke will definitely drift into a neighbour's window where smoke detectors will be activated. There also are laws concerning the transporting of propane through a high-rise building that only complicates matters further. Propane tanks and cylinders must be stored in a safe place away from dwellings. Propane cylinders must be transported in a service elevator, or when there is no service elevator, the person must use the passenger elevator alone to transport the cylinder. Certain condo corpo ...

20 NEW HOMES & CONDOS For a limited time, The Conservatory Group is offering a financial incentive that makes the dream of home ownership a reality for many people. From first-time homebuyers and new Canadians, to those who don't fully meet the lending criteria of traditional banks, people have access to Conservatory Group's "0% Financing for Three Years" promotion, which is available on select lots. Potential homebuyers received approval by the builder, rather than banks, and pay no interest for three years. Under the 0% promotion, homebuyers pay an initial down payment, and then 1/360th of the principle on their mortgages each month. At the end of three years, they will have paid approximately an extra 10 to 12 % on principle and, also, will have built equity through the home's appreciation over the three year period. Qualifying homebuyers have the opportunity to not only own a home, but to save significantly in the process. "Conservatory Group was founded by an im ...
